BL-BEX-02 · BIMLabs training programme
Advanced BEXEL Manager: Cost Classification and 5D Preparation
Build and validate a cost classification that connects a project’s coding structure, quantities, model elements and estimating information.

Who this programme is for
BEXEL users, estimators, quantity surveyors and BIM leads who need a reusable cost-classification structure.
Before you start: BEXEL Manager Fundamentals or equivalent practical experience with model review, properties and quantity take-off.
Learning outcomes
- Design a cost-classification hierarchy with clear codes, units, measurement rules and item descriptions.
- Create a classification manually or import an agreed Excel structure.
- Use CBS- or QTO-based workflows where appropriate to generate and refine classification items.
- Prepare rules for linking cost items to model elements and verify coverage.
- Review resources, non-modelled costs and assumptions and document the resulting estimate structure.
Programme outline
Cost-classification requirements
Define the purpose, coding standard, measurement rules, hierarchy and naming conventions.
Cost Editor and classification items
Create classification items, cost items, units and resources; check structure and naming consistency.
Excel preparation and import
Prepare, import and review a sample cost-classification spreadsheet; identify duplicates and mapping issues.
CBS/QTO-driven preparation
Explore generation from agreed breakdowns or quantity take-offs and validate the generated items.
Model linking and cost review
Apply and check assignment rules, identify unassigned or duplicate coverage and account for non-modelled items.
Reusable library and practical assessment
Test the classification on a second model sample and document assumptions, maintenance and reuse.
Practical assessment
A cost-classification and assignment exercise with a coverage review and documented estimating assumptions.
What you will develop
- A pilot cost-classification structure
- An import-ready sample spreadsheet
- A model-assignment and coverage checklist
- A reuse and maintenance guide
Single-company and multi-company delivery
Available as single-company (mono-business) training or multi-company (multi-business) training. Single-company delivery is adapted to an agreed company workflow; multi-company delivery uses a common training dataset and learning objectives.
Participation, scope and delivery arrangements are agreed around the training needs and the format. The assigned trainer is confirmed for each delivery.
Participants work with an agreed training cost dataset. Rates, resources and commercial assumptions require separate project-specific validation.
Programme outline prepared for review. No scheduled dates or HRDA approval are confirmed by this listing. Any subsidy is subject to the relevant scheme and eligibility requirements.
